Special thanks to Shelly and Chris Ferguson – owners of Dreamy Baby Props – for this FABULOUS opportunity for one very lucky RTS reader!
Do you find it challenging as a newborn photographer to find the right props and tools to use in your sessions? When time permits there is nothing more fun than searching through antique stores or surfing the net to find the perfect prop or accessory to use, but let’s face it time isn’t always readily available. Wouldn’t it be great to have a one stop shop for all those wonderful items we love to use for newborn sessions? This idea was the seed that started Dreamy Baby Props. We would like to create that one stop shop for all the things we love to use in newborn sessions, but as they say, Rome was not built in a day, so we will take our time as we carefully handpick the best products to add to our selection. Your input will be very important in this process! What would you as a newborn photographer like to use in your sessions? Send us an email or come visit us on Facebook and leave a comment!
So what did we decide to start with, you ask? Well the ever popular, must have, newborn posing beanbag ottoman of course! This is the basic must have for all newborn photographers…this is the cake so to speak, everything else is the icing J
Why did we start with the ottoman? Well as a newborn photographer myself, the one basic tool I use in every session is a beanbag covered with various blankets to create those lovely timeless poses that all our clients all love! I always felt frustrated with the limitations of a regular beanbag, from it not being big enough for twins, to it not having a flat enough top and the big one was that the material was not easily washable! Come on now, how many of your babies have little accidents during their session LOL? If you are like me, you’re lucky if you get through a session without a little baby tinkle! This is one of the biggest reasons that I love my Dreamy Baby Ottoman! All it takes is a little disinfectant spray and a damp cloth and voilà! It’s clean and ready for your next session. Now if I can just avoid getting the pee on me…. J
What makes this puck shaped beanbag ottoman so great?
- It’s large 40” flat surface is big enough for newborns, twins or even triplets! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE how big it is…you will never want to go back a regular beanbag after trying one of these!I even use it now as a seat for the mommy/daddy and baby shots! So convenient!
- It is made with high quality faux leather vinyl that makes for easy clean-up of newborn ‘accidents’.
- It has not one but TWO zippers for added security in keeping the beans in the bag! Trust me, you do not want beans falling out of your bag…
- It has a convenient carrying handle that lays flush against the zipper to keep it nicely hidden.
- It can be filled to your desired firmness.
What else do I love about the Dreamy Baby Posing Ottoman? I love that I can use it alone with a blanket on top or with rolled up towels under the blanket to achieve different types of poses.
Simple timeless poses…

Everyone loves the hand in the chin pose
(and yes he did have that much hair when he was born…6 weeks early!!)

I love these bird’s eye view poses and the flat surface is a tremendous help in being able to pull my blankets tight to get that smooth look to them.

I really love that it is big enough for twins!! Could even put triplets on it if I wanted too![]()

It even works well for older babies too![]()
